Sophomore Year Fall Quarter Reflection

End of the Decade

As the 2020's approach, I would like to reflect on the last ten years and think about the next ten years because, personally, over the past ten years I have transformed as a person, more than just going from ten to twenty years. Here is a brief snippet of all that I would like to remember from this decade.

2010.

  • In the 5th grade, thoroughly enjoying collecting bugs for class (much to my mother's horror)

  • Did our first Pet Parade (and won with the extensive float that my parents made)

  • Wearing a Sweatshirt, Jeans and Sneakers on the first day of class (nothing has changed)

  • On my 3rd Hamster (out of 13 during this decade)

  • Our Lake House was purchased (quickly becoming my favorite place in the whole world)

  • Want to grow up to become a teacher.

2011.

  • No longer want to be a teacher.

  • Spend the first summer at the Lake.

2012.

  • Begin volunteering at a Swedish Hospital.

2020.

  • Study Abroad in Cadiz, Spain.

  • See The Align Program begin as a program at the UW.

  • Take more time for myself to relax and enjoy the college experience.

  • Start Shadowing Doctors.

For me, these events all largely connect to where I am today and who I am. You can see the chronicling of how I got involved in working with people with intellectual disabilities, what my interests became, how I became a confident speaker and an advocate, and how this has shaped what my future looks like. After the busiest quarter of my life, I am excited to see what the next decade has in store.
