First Year Reflection

Reflection Lists...

Top Three Memorable Moments (in a list of many):

  1. Move-In: After the weeks of nervous energy leading up to moving into the dorm freshmen year, my RA, hall mates and Dawg Daze made this among the best days/weeks of the year.
  2. Friends: I met so many amazing people this year, mostly new faces who had come from other high schools and states. This helped me to define who I am and these people made me feel special because of that. I do more things and have more of a social life than I ever did in high school. Living in the Honors LLC was amazing too, my best friends lived here and I saw them in classes, floor activities, Honors activities, etc.
  3. Sports Games: As a huge sports fan, UW sports (football and basketball) and Seattle Sports (Mariners, Seahawks and Sounders) really made this an enjoyable part of my year.

Bonus: Clubs, Classes, Food/Dining Plan, Professors

Two Things I Learned About Myself:

  1. Independence: I have always been independent, but I have learned how much I enjoy living independently and doing as I please. It is really nice to have a small space and know that you placed everything where it was (nothing getting shoved in random drawers :) )
  2. Alone Time: I really enjoy alone time and need to find a balance between studying alone, with a group or in a library. There is a balance with that and with hanging around people all the time; I like to keep my room as personal space with few people there during certain hours.
  3. Communication: I struggle to communicate openly about my needs and wants particularly in some situations. Something that I need to work on.

Bonus: Balancing my time, Studying/Doing the Readings, Talking with Professors

Three Things That Challenged Me:

  1. Roommates: I had a really challenging roommate whom I barely spoke to during Winter or Spring Quarter. It was a challenging situation and something that I hope that I will grow from.
  2. Mental Health: Not my mental health specifically, but of those around me. I had one particularly challenging experience. If you need help, go here.
  3. Food: Variety was a challenge and spending all of my dining plan.

Three Things that Surprised Me:

  1. Professors Care: I haven't had a bad experience at all and they are willing to sit down and talk with you if you put in effort and participate (and even if you don't they will still do it!). I went to office hours weekly in many of my classes and it was always helpful.
  2. Number of Free Things and Things To Do on Campus: I collected 6 free water bottles, 8 free shirts, and loads of stickers. Also on a bunch of random listservs which is probably related. I was never bored.
  3. Public Transportation: I used the buses and the link probably close to 3-4 per week. Having the transportation card is incredibly helpful.

Favorite Food to Buy:

  1. Turkey, Mozzarella Cheese, Pesto at By George
  2. Sandwiches from Local Point or Center Table
  3. Pasta from Center Table

Bonus: Smoothies, anything at the DM, Pancake Nights before Finals (THE BEST)

Three Goals for the Coming Year:

  1. Get Better Grades in Science Classes
  2. Exercise More
  3. Do Non-Academic Clubs

Bonus: Become a Honors Ambassador, Join Harry Potter Club, Play Tennis More, Read More Books, Go to More Office Hours
